A lot of people who are serious are more or less perfectand want to do something good. Perhaps it takes a lot of time and effort for the perfect person to do things that other people think are easy. But is such commitment really the perfect thing to do?
Once I heard a story about a zen monk who was eager to make a good impression on the important guests visiting his temple. So he worked hard, day and night, and took care of the garden. He even trimmed every tree, and every pebble, and every shade of water, was carefully laid out.
When the visitor came into the garden, his face looked puzzled. He circled the largest tree in the park, and then shook the trunk until the ground was covered with three or two small branches. He smiled and said to the zen master, "this is perfect."
Being a perfectionist is the right thing to do. But if things go beyond a certain point, it will almost suffocate itself and the people around them.
To make everything "just right" is addictive. As with all other habits, the more you look at it, the more it becomes a code of conduct. So we need to make ourselves clear that imperfections are perfect.
In theory, for example, you could command a band and all Musical Instruments were played by the computer. Every voice can be perfect and flawless, but, crucially, it lacks soul. Let music be alive, maybe that little bit of imperfections.
